Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez told 12 News officers rushed to Harvard Avenue and found two men, ages 34 and 49, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Perez said the 34-year-old, identified as Corey Towns, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The 49-year-old was also brought to the hospital in critical condition but is currently stable.

Investigators believe the men were sitting on a park bench, possibly playing cards, when Perez said someone “pulled up on them” and opened fire.

No suspects are in custody at this time and the motive for the shooting is unknown.

Perez said this was the capital city’s fourth homicide of the year.
