PLAINVILLE, Mass. (WPRI) — A Massachusetts man is accused of drunkenly driving a stolen vehicle and causing a crash that killed a 10-year-old boy.
Michael Escolas, 42, of Oxford, was arrested following the crash Saturday night on Route 1 in Plainville.
Massachusetts State Police said Escolas allegedly stole a Vermont couple’s Jeep from the Gillette Stadium parking lot around 8:30 p.m. and sped off down Route 1 South.
A short time later, he rear-ended a car stopped at a red light at the I-495 intersection, according to police. That collision led to three other vehicles getting involved in the crash.
Police said there was a family of six inside the car. They were all brought to the hospital where one of the children, a 10-year-old boy, died from his injuries.
Escolas will be arraigned Monday on charges including motor vehicle manslaughter while OUI and larceny of a motor vehicle.
