2 dead, 1 critically injured following crash with garbage truck in Johnston

(WJAR) — Two people died, and one person was critically injured following an early morning crash in Johnston on Thursday.
The Johnston Police Department responded around 4:15 a.m. to the crash near 2828 Hartford Avenue.
Police say a Toyota Corolla with three occupants were traveling east on Hartford Avenue when it veered into the westbound travel lane and struck a MEGA Disposal garbage truck head on.
The department says the driver, identified only as a 22-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A rear passenger, also a 22-year-old man, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A front-seat passenger, also identified as a 22-year-old man, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the garbage truck was not injured.
The police response caused a slowdown to the morning commute on Hartford Avenue.
The accident remains under investigation.
