2 RI Stop & Shop Supermarkets Closing: See List
Stop & Shop’s parent company Friday announces the closure of 32 stores, including two in Rhode Island.
RHODE ISLAND — Two Stop & Shop locations will close by early November, as the supermarket chain looks to restructure its footprint in the Northeast.
Stop & Shop has close to 400 stores across five states, and is shuttering 32 underperforming locations in New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island.
The company said all the impacted stores “are anticipated to close on or before Nov. 2, 2024,” and that it will communicate specific store closing dates to local customers “well in advance.”
The supermarket chain initially announced plans to close stores in May in an effort to “position the company for growth,” and said it will offer jobs at other supermarket locations to workers whose stores will close.
Here are the two Stop & Shop stores closing in Rhode Island:
- 11 Commerce Way, Johnston
- 176 Pittman St., Providence (Eastside Marketplace).
Stop & Shop will also close five stores in Connecticut, 10 in New Jersey, seven in New York and eight in Massachusetts. The company said it will still operate more than 350 stores in the Northeast after these closures go into effect.
