Crews responding to the triple-decker on Sackett Avenue around 12 p.m. found heavy smoke coming from the second and third floors.

Deputy Assistant Chief Robert Jackson said there were people inside at the time of the fire, but they made it out unharmed.

The two neighboring homes were also evacuated as a precaution. One did have some fire damage to the siding of the building.

The Red Cross is assisting the families that were affected.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
