A RISCA Grant’s Journey: What Happens After You Submit

You ever wonder what happens to your grant once you submit it to RISCA? And why it takes until the summer to learn whether or not you receive a grant when you apply at the April 1 Deadline? The 2019 State Asian Art Exhibit is not to miss! Now on display at the Atrium Gallery, the exhibit is a collaborative venture between The India Association of Rhode Island(IARI) and Hmong United Rhode Island (HUARI)consisting of two components: IARI’s “Traditional India: An Artist Perspective,” and HUARI’s “A Place in Time, Ib Qhov Chaw Rau Lub Si Hawm.” The exhibit is on display through August 5.
Haley and Maggie’s Excellent “Poetry Out Loud” Adventure! Poetry Out Loud is a national program sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. The program culminates in a final recitation competition where each state and territory in the United States sends a champion. This year’s Rhode Island Champion was senior Haley Long from Classical High School. RISCA Arts in Education Director, Maggie Anderson, joined Haley on the trip to DC for the final competition. Read about their “excellent adventure” here.
RI Cultural Anchor: Uriah Donnelly. Uriah is a nonprofit administrator and arts educator from Warren, RI where in early 2016 he launched The Collaborative, a nonprofit arts organization. Uriah is also a published writer and celebrated musician. He lives in Warren with his wife, Janet. Read more here.
Featured RISCA Grantee Event: NIGHT’S PEOPLEby Mixed Magic Theatre, June 14-15 at Trinity Repertory Company. NIGHT’S PEOPLE is a gathering of nocturnal people who feel trapped or unable to express themselves during the day. They meet at the Corner of Midnight and the Edge of Time “to sing the songs that the daylight hides.” A musical theatrical experience written by Ricardo Pitts-Wiley. Read more here.
