CRANSTON, R.I. (WJAR) — An inmate from the ACI’s Minimum Security unit walked away from an outdoor job assignment on Thursday morning.
A source told NBC 10 News that the inmate’s name is Joshua Torres. He is 26.
“An inmate from Minimum Security was working outside and walked away (absconded) from his job assignment earlier this morning,” said J.R. Ventura, a spokesperson for the state Department of Corrections. “The matter is under investigation by the ACI’s Investigative Unit.”
Torres walked away from his assignment at the central warehouse on Power Road.
“You’re incarcerated for a reason, and you’ve done something wrong. You should do your time. We don’t know what type of person that is or what kinds of things going on in his mind and how desperate they are,” said John Donovan, a Cranston resident.
“They’ll find him. They always do,” said Krzystyna Caldarone, who works in Cranston.
Torres is serving time on a gun charge and is due to be released in March 2027.
Court records show he previously did time for robbery.
