CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after an inmate died at the Adult Correctional Institutions over the weekend.
J.R. Ventura, a spokesperson for the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, told 12 News that on the morning of Sunday, July 5, correctional staff were alerted an unresponsive inmate inside his cell at the ACI’s Intake Service Center.
The staffers called for rescue and began performing life-saving measures, according to Ventura. Paramedics took over once they arrived, but efforts to revive the inmate were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.
