Be Safe Fresh Program Launched to Provide “Heat and Eat” Meals on Request
The partnership between Bank of America and Family Service of RI distributes 450 prepared meals weekly.
PROVIDENCE, RI— One in four Rhode Islanders currently struggles with access to food, but a new partnership is helping to bridge that gap by providing freshly prepared meals on-demand. The new Be Safe Fresh program launched in February and is already delivering 450 “heat and eat” meals each week to Rhode Islanders in need.
Partners Bank of America and Family Service of RI launched this program in February to help families experiencing food and economic uncertainty during COVID. As many as 35,000 Rhode Islanders have already been helped through Family Service of RI’s Be Safe program, launched last year, which made home deliveries of 3-5 days of shelf-stable food, PPE, cleaning supplies, and toilet paper. Now, with Bank of America’s additional contribution of healthy chicken, fish, and vegan meals to these deliveries, even more Rhode Islanders will get the help they need.
While many Be Safe deliveries go out to homes with kitchens, Family Service of RI is delivering more and more supplies to Rhode Islanders on the verge of homelessness, now living in motels and short-term stay facilities.
“These microwaveable, healthy meals are a godsend for these families,” notes Margaret Holland McDuff, CEO of Family Service of RI. “Another awesome example of Bank of America stepping forward with leadership, out of the box thinking, and caring to help end hunger among Rhode Island’s working families, children, and the elderly. We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with them on Be Safe Fresh.”
“FSRI’s mission to advance equity, opportunity, and hope in local communities is also at the heart of everything we do at Bank of America to support our clients, teammates, and communities each day,” said Sean Dagesse, Senior Vice President at Bank of America.
