Board of Licenses holds show-cause hearing for four Providence nightclubs after violence
by NBC 10 NEWS
(WJAR) — Four nightclubs in Providence were the subject of the show-cause hearing at a Board of Licenses meeting on Thursday.
The clubs—Sage Kitchen and Bar, Afrique D’ Lounge, Lovera VIP and Mezzo Longue—have been involved in a trend of violence in the past couple of weeks.
Afrique D’ Lounge on Federal Hill, where a stabbing occurred involving one of the security guards on Nov. 3, can remain open under a 90-day violation.
If it has a violation during that time, Afrique D’ Lounge will have to close for two days.
Officials determined that Sage Kitchen and Bar, where there was a stabbing on Nov. 8, will remain closed until a Department of Business Regulations meeting.
Lovera VIP, where multiple people were stabbed last weekend, is permitted to stay open after closing for four days, officials said at the hearing.
The Board of Licenses also determined that Mezzo Lounge will stay closed until a Dec. 5 hearing.
However, some residents were not happy with the outcome.
“I am looking for justice for my son, and other people, because prior to this there were other incidents,” said a victim’s mother.
According to police, there was a shooting last weekend at a parking lot on Charles Street involving dozens of people coming out from the Mezzo Lounge.
Providence police told NBC 10 earlier this week that they will increase patrols amid the trend of nightclub violence.
