The vehicle crashed into the playground at Child Care Plus Learning Center around 4:30 p.m.
Central Coventry Fire Chief Kevin Cady told 12 News there were 15 children outside playing at the time of the crash.
Cady said the five children were rushed to the hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Charles Psilopoulos, who owns the day care alongside Steven Lawton, told 12 News the driver was an employee who was preparing to leave with her two young children at the time of the crash.
Psilopoulos said the employee was shaken up by the ordeal and told him she’s unsure what happened.
In a message to parents after the crash, Lawton and Psilopoulos said the day care will open Tuesday, but children will be having indoor recess until the fence is repaired.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.
