Central Falls Man Found Guilty of Child Molestation

Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin announced that yesterday a Providence County Superior Court jury found Carlos Rivera (age 52), of Central Falls, guilty of one count of first degree child molestation and two counts of second degree child molestation.  The jury returned the verdict after four hours of deliberations following a four-day trial presided over by Superior Court Justice Brian P. Stern.

During the trial, the State proved that on or about dates between July 18, 2013 and July 17, 2015, the defendant sexually molested a 11-year-old girl known to him.  The victim reported the abuse to her pediatrician, who in turn contacted the Department of Children, Youth and Families.

In addition to the victim testifying at trial to the multiple instances of molestation by the defendant, Dr. Christine Barron and Dr. Amy Goldberg, both of the Hasbro Children’s Hospital Aubin Center, testified to the two medical examinations of the victim and the physical findings that indicated sexual penetration.

The defendant remains held without bail pending sentencing, which is scheduled for August 29, 2018.

Central Falls Detective Sarah McNulty led the investigation and Special Assistant Attorneys General Laura Nicholson and Lauren Iannelli prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of Attorney General.
