PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The owners of the Comedy Connection announced Thursday they have bought the former Columbus Theatre that closed in June.
The Providence venue will now go by its former name, the Uptown Theatre.
“We are thrilled to bring back the Uptown Theatre name and honor its legacy,” said Cory Brailsford, one of the owners. “Our goal is to preserve its historic charm while introducing exciting new programming that will appeal to a wide range of audiences.”
David Fiorillo, the Comedy Connection’s other owner, said they’re “honored to have the opportunity to breathe new life into this beloved institution.”
Once renovations to the Uptown Theatre are completed, the owners said the venue will offer “diverse entertainment options to the community.”
Brailsford told 12 News the purchase won’t result in any changes to the programming at the Comedy Connection, which will remain open in East Providence.
