The incident stemmed from a domestic situation between a man and a woman that officers responded to just before 8 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

Police said that while officers were heading to the Greenwich Avenue home, they were notified about a dog that was attacking multiple people and another dog.

When the first officer arrived, he saw the dog go after multiple people in the front yard and then was charged at and bitten himself, according to police.

After the officer was bitten, he discharged his gun. Police said the dog was pronounced dead after they took it to a local animal hospital.

The officer and a civilian who were bitten were taken to the hospital. Police said their injuries are not life-threatening.
