The National Clinical Care Commission (NCCC) is holding its eighth meeting on September 11, 2020, from 1:00 to 5:35 p.m. ET. This meeting is open to the public and will be held virtually. Register today!
At the meeting, you’ll hear presentations on subcommittee work about federal programs designed to prevent and treat diabetes. We’ll also discuss potential recommendations for the NCCC’s final report, which is set to be released in 2021. There will also be an opportunity for stakeholders to provide public comment.
On August 18, ODPHP released Healthy People 2030 — the fifth iteration of the Healthy People initiative. Building on knowledge gained over the past 4 decades, Healthy People 2030 sets national objectives to address the nation’s most critical public health priorities.
With fewer objectives and higher data standards, Healthy People 2030 is more focused and rigorous than previous iterations of the initiative. New objectives for this decade address emerging health issues — like opioid use disorder and adolescents’ use of e-cigarettes and flavored tobacco.
In 2020, ODPHP is working with 8 pilot communities to implement the Move Your Way campaign on the local level, using the Move Your Way Community Playbook.
Due to COVID-19, pilot communities are adapting their campaigns to help people stay safe while they get active. This series will highlight local events and initiatives from the community pilot program — including creative ways to promote physical activity during social distancing.
This installment highlights a successful virtual launch event that took place on April 25, 2020 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina.

How Laws and Policies Can Help Families Overcome Barriers to Breastfeeding
A new report from the Healthy People Law and Health Policy project — The Role of Law and Policy in Assisting Families to Reach Healthy People’s Maternal, Infant, and Child Health Breastfeeding Goals in the United States — identifies progress and priority areas for meeting Healthy People 2020 objectives related to breastfeeding.
Dr. Alison Stuebe, an obstetrician and distinguished scholar in infant and young child feeding in the Department of Maternal and Child Health at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health, coauthored the report. In this blog post, she focuses on some of the challenges related to breastfeeding and opportunities for law and policy to improve breastfeeding rates.
