Paré’s Appointment Marks First Woman in City History Named to the Senior Role
PROVIDENCE, RI – Mayor Jorge O. Elorza today announced that Elyse Paré has been named Tax Assessor for Providence where she will oversee the City’s property tax assessment functions, including the production of the annual certified tax roll that is the basis for the City’s tax levy, the maintenance of records of all real estate, tangible and motor vehicle tax records and policies and procedures used to determine valuations. The appointment of Paré marks the first selection of a woman in City history for the senior administrative role.

Elorza. “Elyse’s vast valuation experience and professional accomplishments demonstrate that she is well prepared for the duties of assessor. I look forward to working with her to advance Providence.”
Paré is a graduate of the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) and earned a Comparative Tax Policy and Administration Executive Certificate from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She serves as the current Vice President of the Rhode Island Assessor’s Association (RIAAO) and brings over 14-years of experience in technical analysis and valuation of real and tangible property throughout the Northeast.
Most recently Paré served as Tax Assessor for the City of Woonsocket. She previously served as Deputy Tax Assessor for the City of Providence, where she was responsible for the preparation of the finalized tax certification totaling more than $10 billion in assessed valuations.
Paré’s professional certifications include: Rhode Island Certified Tax Assessor (RICA), Rhode Island Property Tax Law and Administration Certificate from the Rhode Island Assessor’s Association (RIAAO) and Real Property Appraisal and Income Approach to Valuation Certificates from the International Association Assessing Officers (IAAO).
Paré’s first day as Tax Assessor will be Monday, September 16, 2019.
