Ethics commission reaches settlement with state’s prison director
(WJAR) — The Rhode Island Ethics Commission reached a settlement agreement with the state’s prison director regarding a complaint on Tuesday.
The commission voted in favor of reaching a settlement with Wayne Salisbury.
He was confirmed into his role by state senators in June, despite opposition from the corrections union.
Officials spoke with Salisbury about an investigation into a complaint, in private for about an hour.
The complaint filed by the union cites Salisbury’s failure to disclose six out-of-state trips paid for by other organizations on his 2023 ethics financial disclosure statement.
The commission says the vote was 4 to 2 to approve a resolution and settlement.
There was some back and forth later among commission members to raise the $200 civil fine.
“It was a simple matter of ignorance. I am thoroughly embarrassed that I didn’t know how to complete the form and what the requirements were. thanks to the ethics commission staff we able to remedy that fact, so going forward it won’t be an issue,” said Salisbury.
We are still working to get the final paperwork but at last check, it wasn’t available.
