BARDA, HHS Partners Launch Data Challenge Competition to Develop Algorithms to Help Healthcare Providers Predict Which Children are at Risk for Severe COVID-19
The Biomedical Applied Research and Development Authority (BARDA) – in collaboration with the National Institute of Health and the Health Resources and Services Administration – launched a data challenge competition to develop algorithms (computational models) that could help healthcare providers predict which of their pediatric patients with COVID-19 are likely to develop severe COVID-19 complications, including conditions such as multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). Challenge participants must develop, train, and validate computational models to predict pediatric patients at risk for hospitalization, need for ventilation, and cardiovascular interventions. Winners will receive a cash prize and may be eligible to apply for follow on funding support and in-kind services.
