Thick plumes of smoke could be seen billowing into the night sky over Westminster Street as flames destroyed the building, which is in between Royal Lunch and Ogie’s Trailer Park.
Deputy Assistant Fire Chief Joseph Paiva told 12 News no one was inside the building at the time and no injuries were reported.
Paiva said the building’s owner has been notified. He was unsure exactly what the building was being used for.
Neither Ogie’s nor Royal Lunch were significantly damaged by the fire, according to Paiva. However, he added that Ogie’s was evacuated as a precaution.
“It does not look like it,” he replied when asked whether the neighboring businesses were impacted. “There could possibly be some smoke damage, maybe a little heat damage … but as far as I can tell no.”
Paiva couldn’t confirm whether the building is a total loss, but noted that a section of it did collapse and that it sustained significant damage.
