Kevin Langlois, 58, of Rehoboth, has been charged with three counts of second-degree child molestation and one count each of indecent solicitation of a child, simple assault, and indecent exposure.
He was arraigned on Thursday and the judge set bail at $10,000 with surety. He was also given a no-contact order.
Police said the alleged incidents involved two girls between the ages of 5 and 12 years old.
“Let me be clear: I am outraged. The arrest of a school bus monitor in connection with incidents involving our students is not only deeply disturbing — it’s an unforgivable breach of trust,” School Committee Chairman Thomas Peck said in a statement.
An investigation immediately began after the first incident was reported in June, according to police. Two additional incidents were later reported.
“This investigation was complicated and required a deliberate and thoughtful approach, considering the seriousness of the allegations and the vulnerability of the victims,” Police Chief Michael Correia said.
Langlois, who has since been fired by Ocean State Transit, had been working for the transportation provider since 2022.
Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Barrington police at (401) 437-3930.
In response to the allegations, the Barrington School Committee voted earlier this year to end its contract with Ocean State Transit. The contract was set to expire on July 1.
The district also created a new director of transportation role to oversee investigations, manage the search for a new provider and review safety protocols.
Peck added that the district took immediate action and initiated a Title IX investigation and expanded it to include a third-party investigator.
“Our families and community deserve answers and accountability. And above all, our children deserve safety, respect, and care,” Acting Superintendent Christ Ashley said. “We will not stop until we are certain that every step has been taken to deliver all three.”
