FSRI’s Police Partnership Therapy Dog To Be Introduced Thursday

PROVIDENCE, RI, February 27, 2018 – “Justice,” a six month old Golden Retriever/Poodle mix, will be introduced as the newest member of the Family Service of RI/Providence Police Partnership team at a Thursday, March 1 event honoring Family Service of Rhode Island’s work partnering with police departments to help crime and violence victims.
The event takes place Thursday at the Omni Providence, 1 West Exchange Street, Providence, 02903. The dog, currently in training to serve as a therapy dog, will be introduced during a speaking program which begins at 12:10 PM.
Family Service of Rhode Island is receiving the Mutual of America Community Partnership Award for partnering with the Providence Police, the East Providence Police, and the State Police. Speakers at the event include RI Governor Gina Raimondo, Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza, Family Service of RI’s CEO Margaret Holland McDuff, Mutual of America representatives and others.
Once training is completed, “Justice” will accompany Family Service of RI’s Carla Cuellar as she responds to scenes of crime and violence. The dog will assist Carla in providing comfort to victims of, or witnesses to, sexual assault, human trafficking, homicide, suicide, domestic violence, child maltreatment, and other forms of crime and violence.
“Justice” is believed to be the first dog to be utilized in this manner in RI.
