Gina Raimondo’s UHIP Failures Continue To Cost Rhode Island
Warwick, RI – Gina Raimondo’s failed leadership continues to cost Rhode Islanders as costs pile up for her administration’s UHIP debacle. The Providence Journal’s Patrick Anderson reported today that “the state no longer expects UHIP to detect a large number of ineligible Medicaid enrollees, even when fully functioning,” despite that fact that “getting ineligible people off Medicaid was a major selling point of UHIP.”
This comes after Rhode Islanders were repeatedly told for years that this would be a reason why UHIP would pay for itself by FY 2018. When problems with the system became apparent, Raimondo pledged in January of last year that the state “will not pay another penny” unless it is “satisfied that they are delivering and … are in compliance with the terms of their contract.” Unfortunately, she appears to have failed to follow through on her word.
As Rhode Island citizens face growing costs and delays in service for Medicaid thanks to Raimondo’s UHIP disaster, it becomes clearer with each passing day that the state needs new leadership this November.
