The popular online travel guide names Guatapé to position #9 on its annual list of the world’s 50 best travel destinations.

Denver, USA (November 7, 2023) – Travel Lemming, a US-based online travel guide read by more than 10 million travelers, today announced its list of the top 50 global travel destinations for 2024. Guatapé was named the overall best place to visit in South America next year, and the #9 destination globally.

The annual list of 50 best places to travel highlights emerging destinations and hidden gems around the world.

The article calls Guatapé “one of the most awe-inspiring destinations in Colombia” and invites travelers to Climb El Peñón de Guatapé, shop for artisanal crafts in the Plaza del Zocalo, have coffee at Cafe La Vina, and take a boat tour.

Taylor Herperger, Director of Marketing at Travel Lemming, commented: “There are a ton of fantastic destinations in Colombia, but my time in Guatapé feels special even among the rest. Climbing El Peñón de Guatapé was the experience of a lifetime, and I had a blast learning about all the unique history and how it’s displayed on the buildings. Travelers shouldn’t sleep on Guatapé!”

The annual list is a collaborative project by the publication’s team of more than 35 travel writers and editors. Travel Lemming’s local travel experts each nominate their favorite destinations that are reviewed and voted on by the publication’s editorial board.

The top 10 places to travel in 2024 according to Travel Lemming are:

  • #1 – Yucatán, Mexico

  • #2 – Gizo, Solomon Islands

  • #3 – Stavanger, Norway

  • #4 – Antigua, Guatemala

  • #5 – Memphis, Tennessee

  • #6 – Phú Quốc, Vietnam

“Largely driven by post-pandemic remote work opportunities, 2024 is seeing the trend of ‘slow travel’ emerge in a big way,” commented Nate Hake. “People are simply staying in destinations longer and traveling slower. Our unique list of 50 best places to travel in 2024 is the perfect inspiration list for anyone looking to dive deep into a location.”
