President Trump Signs Executive Order to Modernize Influenza Vaccines
On September 19, President Trump signed an executive order to modernize influenza vaccines using a whole-of-government approach to protect us from seasonal flu, which kills tens of thousands of Americans each year, and protect our country from the threat of pandemic flu. The Administration will work with multiple federal agencies and departments, including ASPR-BARDA, to (1) reduce reliance on more time-consuming, egg-based vaccine production, (2) improve the speed of production to enable experts to better match vaccines to actively circulating viruses, an important piece of making the vaccines more effective, and (3) advance the development of new, more effective vaccines.
