Have you ever wondered why science takes so long? Maybe you haven’t thought about it much. But waiting around to hear more about COVID-19 may have you frustrated with the process. Learn more about how scientists work to find better ways to predict, prevent, diagnose, and treat disease.
How Loud is Too Loud?
Noise is all around you, from headphones and televisions to lawnmowers and washing machines. But sounds that are too loud or loud sounds over a long period of time can damage sensitive structures of the inner ear and cause noise-induced hearing loss.
Sound is measured in units called decibels. Sounds at or below 70 A-weighted decibels (dBA) are generally safe. Here are some decibel ratings for common sounds:
Normal conversation: 60-70 dBA
Lawnmowers: 80 to 100 dBA
Sports events: 94 to 110 dBA
Sirens from emergency vehicles: 110 to 129 dBA
Fireworks: 140 to 160 dBA
Find out more about how sound is measured and how you can protect your hearing.

Mammogram: Screening and Diagnostic
A mammogram is a low-dose x-ray picture of the breast that allows a doctor to have a closer look for changes in breast tissue that cannot be felt during a breast exam. Screening mammograms are done for women who have no symptoms of breast cancer. Diagnostic mammograms are used to check for breast cancer after a lump or other symptom or sign of breast cancer has been found.
What is TMJ?
You have two matching temporomandibular joints (TMJ) on each side of your head just in front of your ears. These joints connect your jaw to the side of your head and enable you to talk, chew, and yawn. For people with TMJ dysfunction, problems with the joint and muscles around it may cause:
Headaches
Pain that travels through the face, jaw, or neck
Stiff jaw muscles
Limited movement or locking of the jaw
Painful clicking or popping in the jaw
A change in the way the upper and lower teeth fit together
Treatment may include simple things you can do yourself, such as eating soft foods or applying ice packs. It may also include pain medicines or devices to insert in your mouth.
