Johnson & Wales University launches 3-year bachelor’s degree

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Johnson & Wales University (JWU) in Providence is now offering three-year bachelor’s degree programs in graphic design, computer science, criminal justice and hospitality management.

JWU said the 90-96 credit career-focused degrees are the first of their kind in the country. The step away from the standard four-year degree model is the result of the shifting needs of students and the workforce.

“A student might come from high school, just like a regular four-year bachelor degree student would, but they are on campus for three academic years,” JWU Chancellor Mim Runey said.

Runey said students in those programs won’t have as much room for electives, but also won’t have to pay for another year of school.
