Providence Police Col. Oscar Perez told 12 News officers were called to an apartment building on Bailey Court for reports of a stabbing.

The victim, identified by Perez as a 36-year-old man, was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

“It’s unfortunate and it’s sad,” Perez said. “My heart goes out to the family.”

Perez said a suspect is in custody, though it’s unclear what charges he will be facing.

“It appears there was some sort of disturbance between them,” Perez said, referring to the victim and suspect.

Perez said both the suspect and victim lived in the apartment building, but did not live together.
