PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — Rhode Island State Police on Sunday provided more information about how cash came to be strewn on a Providence highway last week.
A Florida man was killed, and according to state police Capt. Jeffrey L’Heureux, the victim was the one who was carrying the money.
L’Heureux said Kevin Elliot McCourt, 61, got out of his vehicle with the money and ran on the highway, after the vehicle he was driving was in a collision, before he was struck by an SUV.
It happened Wednesday shortly before 6 a.m. on southbound Interstate 95.
After McCourt was hit, cash blown about by the breeze was being scooped up by some drivers who got out of their cars before state troopers arrived to gather up the loose money.
There was no immediate official word on how much money McCourt was carrying or why it was loose in his vehicle.
