Staff Spotlight

Thea Upham, Director of Programs & Operations

Thank you for your tireless dedication to Farm Fresh and our community!
What made you want to work at Farm Fresh? When I was in college I worked at farmers markets for Seven Stars Bakery and casually got to know the founder of Farm Fresh, Louella Hill. I was really inspired to hear about her vision to more closely connect local farmers and eaters in RI. My mom grew up on a small farm in PA, where we would visit farm stands and farmers markets as a deeply ingrained part of the culture. When I saw a job opportunity open up at Farm Fresh in 2014 I jumped on the chance to get involved. I really love that I get to spend my days working to help support the amazing local farmers and producers we have in this small state.

What TV or book series are you watching/reading right now? I’ve been re-watching episodes of Star Trek Next Generation. I love that series and since I’m spending so much time at home it’s fun to daydream about exploring new worlds, seeking out new life and civilizations, and boldly going where no one has gone before!

What’s your favorite RI tradition? Beach-Fridays! I love flexing my schedule so I can leave work a little early on Fridays, pick up a sandwich at the Italian Corner in East Providence, drive to the beach for a quick dip and have a sunset picnic, then pick up a chocolate malt from Gray’s Ice Cream in Tiverton on my ride home.

What are you looking forward to most post-pandemic? I can’t wait to travel to see my farmer family in western PA. There’s a small amusement park there called Knoebel’s that we go to each summer. I can’t wait to scream on a roller coaster and walk around the park enjoying a chocolate-peanut-butter soft serve with my friends and family.
