Mayor Elorza Announces Additional Guidance Related to COVID-19, Extends State of Emergency through April 17
Additional Travel-Related Containment Measure Put in Place
PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Mayor Jorge O. Elorza signed an Executive Order today that extends all current restrictions and guidelines issued by the City through April 17th. This new Emergency Declaration supplements Executive Order 2020-1 issued March 12th in which the declaration of an emergency covered the period through March 30th.
These restrictions and guidelines include:
- No gatherings of more than ten (10) persons within the boundaries of the city.
- No on-premises food or drink consumption for restaurants, bars, coffee shops, or other food establishments within the boundaries of the city. Establishments with a food license may continue to conduct pick-up, drive-thru, and delivery only.
- The Providence Place Mall shall remain closed.
- Closure of non-essential establishments including but not limited to: Fitness Centers, Health Clubs, Health Spas, Gyms, Aquatic Centers, Yoga Studios, Martial Arts Studios, Hair Salons, Barber Shops, Massage Parlors, Spas, Body Works Establishments, Beauty Salons (Including tanning, nail and eyelash salons), Tattoo Parlors, Piercing Parlors and Kiosks, Flea Markets
An additional provision included in the Executive Order submitted to the City Clerk earlier today and included in Governor’s Raimondo’s updated guidance requires visitors and residents traveling from the State of New York, or that have travelled there in the past 7 days, to quarantine for no less than fourteen (14) days to help prevent the spread of the virus given the number of cases documented there.
This updated Executive Order shall take effect immediately, and remain in full force and effect through April 17th, or until a declaration that the need for a state of emergency has abated.
This is a rapidly changing situation. As the state’s recommendations to combat the spread of the COVID-19 evolve, the City of Providence will continue to evaluate the need to make additional changes to city services and operations.
Essential city services will continue to be accessible remotely. Local resources are available as defined on our website.
