Mayor Elorza Kicks Off Providence “Souper Bowl of Caring” Canned Food Drive

City-wide collection of canned food will be happening through February 17

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Mayor Jorge O. Elorza will today join Rhode Island Community Food Bank CEO Andrew Schiff, local faith leaders and community members at Iglesia Vision Evangelica to announce the second iteration of the Providence’s “Souper Bowl of Caring” canned food drive as part of Providence’s City of Kindness initiative. In collaboration with the national Souper Bowl of Caring campaign, the city-wide collection effort aims to combat local food insecurity and poverty by making contributions to local hunger-relief charities, including the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. Last year, the City collected 2,290 lbs. of food during this event.

Collection bins located across the city will accept healthy, nutritious and non-perishable food that is in good condition and “in date.” Expired food will not be accepted. Please note that for current collection locations, hours vary depending the hosting establishment. Participating locations include:
