Mayor Elorza’s Statement Regarding Proposal for Decision and Order for the Providence Public School District

Today, Mayor Jorge O. Elorza issued the below statement regarding the State Education Commissioner’s Proposal for Decision and Order for the Providence Public School District (PPSD).

“As we take another step towards a state intervention, I believe that working with the State will help us transform our schools into the places our kids deserve. By invoking their powers under the Crowley Act, the state will be able to help realize the vision that our entire community has for our schools. Though transformational change is difficult, I believe this is the best route to achieve it.

I remain dedicated to working with all stakeholders to ensure that we are building facilities that inspire excellence, supporting our teachers and administrators with the professional development and resources they need, and preparing our youth for the world that awaits them. All the while, we want to center the voice of the Providence Public School community in the future we are creating together.”

Mayor Elorza will be available for media in the Mayor’s Office on the second floor of Providence City Hall, 25 Dorrance Street, today, August 8 at 3:00pm.
