North Providence boy, 4, apparently drowns in family’s pool
NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — North Providence police said Tuesday that a 4-year-old boy died in a swimming pool.
Police said first responders were called to the family’s home on Cassisi Court at about 3:15 p.m.
They said they received a report about a child who was pulled from a pool and was underwater for an unknown amount of time.
“Upon arrival officers observed members from the North Providence Fire Department performing CPR on an unresponsive 4 year old male,” a release said. “The child was immediately transported to Hasbro Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.”
Mayor Charlie Lombardi said the town would provide any support to the family that’s needed.
“There can’t be many things that are worse than this,” said Lombardi, becoming emotional while speaking to reporters.
Neighbors said they saw the horrific scene.
“I saw them run frantically to the back yard, and I was looking out my window when they carried him up,” said one resident.
Deputy Police Chief Robert Lepre said police made a counselor available at the scene.
NBC 10’s Molly Levine contributed to this report.
