NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Firefighters were called to a home on DiGiulio Drive in North Providence around 8 a.m. Wednesday for a report of an explosion.
Fire Chief John Horan told 12 News that crews arrived to find smoky conditions and heavy fire.
“Very intense … It was all hands on deck when they got here,” Horan said.
A second alarm was called after the flames started to melt the siding of a neighboring home. Crews from Johnston and Smithfield responded to the scene as well.
“It was almost similar to having two fires,” Horan explained. “There was a big exterior fire, but it did make its way into the dwelling.”
No one was home at the time, but a dog died in the fire. Horan said two firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor burn injuries.
The Red Cross says a family with two young children is now displaced.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
