PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WJAR) — A Pawtucket family is breathing a sigh of relief after their 1-year-old mini golden doodle, Sunshine, was returned home after an incident caught on camera.
Police said the dog was taken from the family’s driveway on Pinecrest Drive by two men, leaving the family searching for answers.
“Anger, frustration, we were very upset,” Ally Majkut, the granddaughter of Sunshine’s owner, said.
The family quickly recognized one of the men from the neighborhood.
According to Majkut, the man claimed he was approached by another individual wearing a baseball cap and glasses, who asked for help with Sunshine, believing she was lost.
The two men eventually parted ways, leaving Sunshine alone on the road.
Animal Control later found Sunshine, and with the help of social media and the community, she was located at the shelter.
Owner Carol Buser said she was relieved to have Sunshine back.
“I never expected to get her back this quickly at all. It was scary when I realized that she had been taken,” Buser said.
“I’d like to believe maybe he genuinely thought it was his dog or someone else’s dog that was missing and just wanted to help,” said Majkut.
Buser said she is not pressing charges.
