Pawtucket Women Found Guilty of Halloween 2016 Murder of Matthew Reverdes

Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin announced that Trearra Hudgen (age 28), of Pawtucket, was found guilty today by a Providence County Superior Court jury of first degree murder, discharge of a firearm while committing a crime of violence resulting in death, first degree robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon, and carrying a pistol without a license. The jury returned the verdict after less than a day of deliberations that followed a seven-day trial presided over by Superior Court Justice Robert D. Krause.

During the trial, the State proved that during the afternoon of October 31, 2016, Hudgen and co-defendant Julio Cano (age 34), of Pawtucket, entered the basement apartment at 54 Harrison Street, armed with firearms to confront Matthew Reverdes over a personal dispute. A physical confrontation ensued and Hudgens fired her .22 caliber Colt revolver, striking the defendant in the back.

Bleeding, Reverdes fled the apartment and ran to a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts, where he collapsed.  An employee of Dunkin’ Donuts called e-911. Reverdes was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Pawtucket Police responded to the three-decker home located at 54 Harrison Street, where they found multiple shell casings outside the residence and a bullet hole in the wall of Reverdes’ apartment.

After an extensive investigation, law enforcement apprehended Hudgen in Hartford, CT and Cano in Framingham, MA.

Judge Krause set down December 7, 2018 for post-conviction motions and no date has been set for sentencing.  Cano pleaded guilty to murder and conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon on June 13, 2018 and is awaiting sentencing.

Pawtucket Police Detective David Silva led the investigation and Special Assistant Attorneys General David Bonzagni and Jessica Villella prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of the Attorney General.
