The Santos family posted on Facebook that Galito Restaurant will close for good at 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 31.

The owners said it was with “mixed emotions” that they decided to sell the Columbus Avenue restaurant to a Massachusetts-based firm.

“Our reason for selling is due to the fact that we would like to retire full time, and now more than ever, concentrate on what’s important in life – our health, and our family that will soon be growing in the months to come,” the post said. “Family first, always.”

The family said that through an agreement with the new owners, Galito’s gift certificates will be honored at the restaurant through May 31, 2026.

“Please keep in mind that after May 31, 2025, we will not be responsible for the new owners’ menu items, which may not be Portuguese cuisine,” the family noted.

Galito’s owners went on to thank all of their staff members and “dedicated and loyal customers.”

“It was evident that many appreciated our food, presentation, and service throughout these many years, especially during the holidays all year. We did our best in serving the community as best as we knew how, and tried to be good benefactors of our Pawtucket and Portuguese community,” the family’s post continued. “Galito wouldn’t had been so successful and what it was without your amazing support all these years.”
