Providence Public Library Offers Free Small Business Workshop Series and ESL Classes for Business Owner

Thinking of Starting a Small Business?

PROVIDENCE, RI – In conjunction with RI SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) Providence Public Library (PPL) will begin its fall Small Business Workshop Series on Saturday, October 16, from 9:30 am – 12 pm. If you are thinking of starting a business of your own and wondering where to begin, get the basics at this FREE informational workshop series. RI SCORE counselors present and discuss the various aspects of planning and owning a business. PPL staff discusses print and electronic resources available at the Library to research your business and marketing plan.

RIFLI ESL Classes for Business Owners

The Rhode Island Family Literacy Initiative at PPL offers these free special English classes to help you start, grow and market your business. This class aims to support adult immigrants who own their own business or are interested in starting one!  For students at the intermediate or advanced level of English.

Classes will be held online on Saturdays, October 2 – December 18, 10 am — 12:30 pm. In this class, you will:

— Learn to communicate about topics such as management, finance and marketing and learn the necessary language structures to run a meeting, achieve sales, and negotiate business transactions

— Develop grammar, vocabulary and idiomatic expression to communicate effectively with customers

— Develop a needs assessment and create a business plan

— Make contacts with local business organizations to help students network and have a greater understanding of U.S.-based business practice.
