Raimondo Announces #RIArts Initiative

April 29th, 2020
This past Saturday, Governor Gina Raimondo announced #RIArts, an initiative for Rhode Islanders to connect through art during this time of social distancing and staying home.
Rhode Islanders can share their family-friendly artwork by posting it on social media with the tag #RIArts. Creations can also be submitted via email or sent by mail to RISCA.
“During this difficult time, many of us are turning to creative outlets as a source of strength and as a way to take a break from the challenges we face,” Raimondo said. “We hope #RIArts becomes a way for us to connect with our fellow Rhode Islanders and share inspiration as we work together to get through this time.”
In the spirit of sharing, Raimondo also thanked Shepard Fairey, renowned artist and founder of Obey, for creating “RI Angel of Hope and Strength.” Fairey is a 1992 graduate of Rhode Island School of Design and is perhaps best known for his iconic image of President Barack Obama with the word “Hope.” His latest creation, inspired by his time spent in Providence and reflective of his gratitude for health care and frontline workers across the country, is available for free download at RIArts.org.
Share Your Virtual Arts Event on the #RIArts Website. Governor Raimondo and RISCA want to help share information for our artists and audiences about virtual art offerings. Once approved, RISCA will post this information to the RIArts.org website. We invite you to help us promote these events using #RIArts. You can submit your virtual arts and cultural events here.
Patty, a healthcare worker in a small facility and RI resident, created this. She says, “It hangs above where we punch the clock everyday to give inspiration to me and my co-workers. I share it with you all.” #RIArts #ArtistheAnchor
Governor Raimondo comments on Rhode Island Artist Relief Fund
Support Artists in RI through your donation to the Rhode Island Artist Relief Fund! Join Governor Gina Raimondo by making a contribution, in whatever amount, to the Relief Fund. These are difficult times for Rhode Island artists. The COVID-19 health crisis has left many artists without the income to pay rent, pay for food for their families, and the other essentials of life. Make your contribution at artistcommunities.org/art
