RhodeMapRI type scheme could make it a crime for private landlords not to accept Section-8 housing applicants

Providence, RI— Progressive lawmakers, this time at the urging of the RI
 Housing authority, are once again seeking to impose their social-equity agenda on private property owners. Under the proposed legislation, landlords who do not accept Section-8 applicants would automatically be presumed to be discriminatory and could be subject to legal ramifications.
The bills, House bill H7528 and Senate bill S2301,which have been named the Progressive Land of Make Believe Bad Bill of the Week by the RI Center for Freedom & Prosperity, are a clear extension of the RhodeMapRI agenda.
“Ocean State landlords would be at risk of severe ramifications, including lawsuits, just for making prudent business decisions,” said Mike Stenhouse, the Center’s CEO. “This backdoor RhodeMapRI scheme, seeks to advance a progressive-left social-equity agenda that would trample the rights of property owners.”
The Center’s full post describes the many ‘make believe’ assumptions underlying the legislation, which would make Rhode Island an even more hostile place to operate a rental property. In the real world, these new mandates would potentially drive out of state – or out of business – many rental owners … leading to even fewer available housing units.
