JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Joe Mazzulla turns 36 years old later this month.
If he and the Celtics are able to complete their quest for an NBA title, the Johnston native would be in rare company as the youngest head coach to win the championship since the late Bill Russell in 1969.
In the video above, Mazzulla’s aunt tells 12 News what it’s been like to watch him grow up and realize his dreams.
After edging the Mavericks on Wednesday in Dallas, the Celtics are just one win away from clinching the franchise’s 18th banner.
Tip-off for Game 4 is at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
12 Sports Director Taylor Begley will have live reports from Dallas on 12 News, plus continuing coverage right here on WPRI.com.
