Providence, RI (April 15, 2025) – Francis Parra, Artistic and Executive Director of Teatro ECAS is pleased to announce the United States’ premiere of a new interpretation of “La Dama Boba – version for the inexperienced people” from May 15-25, 2025, at Teatro ECAS, 679 Valley Street, Providence, RI. La Dama Boba was written by Lope de Vega, and this version has been adapted by Jorge Fullana.
La Dama Boba, a 400-year-old play, written during the Spanish Golden Age era and now directed by Francis Parra, promises to deliver an immersed fun-filled experience to every member of our audience while telling this zany comedy that defines the style of Lope de Vega. Jorge Fullana is a prolific dramatic arts professor and theater director from Murcia, Spain. Within his theater expertise, he has also mastered the art of lighting, video, and set design. Inspired by the challenges Jorge Fullana faced at 14 while trying to understand Lope de Vega’s works, this initiative seeks to make the classic more accessible to our modern society.
La Dama Boba, version for the inexperienced people, by Fullana, is an educational adaptation that highlights the importance of culture and reading, fostering young people’s interest in classical theater. In fact, it includes stage directions, musical scores, images, and multimedia links, as well as educational resources. La Dama Boba is a comedy of errors that portrays the adventures of a young woman who learns to read and reads because she is in love.
“I had been hoping to produce this amazing adaptation from Spain by Jorge Fullana since I first heard about it a few years ago,” says Francis Parra, Artistic Director and director of the play. “Our audiences absolutely love it when we tackle the difficult masterpieces of the 17 th Century and this Commedia Dell’Arte work has been on my mind as its timely themes never go out of relevance. Why must women be sorted into ‘pretty’ or ‘smart?’ I am fortunate with an amazing cast of actors, and we look forward to bringing lots of laughs as well as pathos to everyone’s May theatergoing in Providence.”
The performances of “La Dama Boba” will take place from Thursday, April 15th until April 25th at 7:00 pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and 3:00 PM on Sundays. Tickets are available now from $35.00 to $55.00. For ticket purchases, please visit teatroecas.org or by call (401) 421-3227.
