TELEMUNDO/NBC NEWS/WSJ LATINO POLL:

65% OF LATINOS DISAPPROVE OF PRESIDENT TRUMP’S JOB

DEMOCRATS HOLD AN ADVANTAGE IN MIDTERMS IF LATINOS GO TO THE POLLS IN NOVEMBER

HALF OF LATINO VOTERS EXPRESSED HIGH INTEREST IN THE UPCOMING ELECTIONS

Miami –September 23, 2018- According to a new Latino poll released today by Noticias Telemundo, NBC News and the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), 65% of Latinos disapprove of the job Donald Trump is doing as President, while 26% approve of his performance. The unpopularity of Trump and his political positions among Latinos could give Democrats a boost in the 2018 midterms, if Latino voters go to the polls in November. The Telemundo/NBC News/WSJ Latino Poll, which comes over a month before midterm elections, also reports that about half (49%) of Latinos polled express high level of interest in the November elections, while 61% of white and 58% of overall voters express high interest in the upcoming races. Other findings include:

  •  64% Latinos would like Democrats in government vs. 21% who would prefer Republicans.
  •  Latinos prefer a Congress-controlled by Democrats rather than by Republicans by a 3 to 1 margin, as a check and balance on Trump’s agenda.
  •  Among younger Latinos, interest in midterms is particularly low: less than half (43%) of Latinos under 40 are highly engaged as the elections approach.
  •  63% of Latinos are less likely to vote for a candidate in favor of building a wall on the border compared to 55% of overall voters.
  •  77% of registered Latino voters are more likely to support a candidate who favors legal status for DREAMers.
  •  52% of Latinos are satisfied with the state of the U.S. economy.

The oversample of 300 Latino registered voters was conducted September 16-18, 2018. Interviews were conducted in both English and Spanish. The margin of error for all Latino voters is +/- 5.66%. You can download the poll here.
