Trinity Rep Raises Record Amount for Rhode Island Community Food Bank

PROVIDENCE, RI: Trinity Rep is pleased to announce that its 2017 collection of donations for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank surpassed its previous record, raising a total of $65,395.21. Since 2006, Trinity Rep has collected donations from audience members during its annual production of A Christmas Carol. This tradition is part of the theater’s commitment to its community and a reminder to audiences to bring the spirit of Dickens’ story into their lives and the rest of Rhode Island. This year’s collection brings the total raised over the past twelve years to over $450,000.

More than 35,000 audience members attended this year’s 40th-anniversary production of A Christmas Carol, which was the highest-grossing production in all of Trinity Rep’s 54-year history, exceeding the previous record by more than 10%. The production featured Resident Acting Company member Joe Wilson, Jr. in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge and 18 different community non-profit groups were featured on stage over the course of the run, providing them the opportunity to perform alongside professional actors and showcase their organizations’ missions. Audiences delighted at what many called one of the best productions of the show they’d seen, with trap doors, tap dancing, zip lines, flying beds, and falling snow.
