Understanding Bipolar Disorder

When you have bipolar disorder, you experience symptoms of intense mood swings. You may brush off these changes as “just being moody” but you, or someone you know, could have a serious mental illness. Symptoms of bipolar disorder include:

  • feeling “up,” elated, irritable, or energized (manic episode)
  • feeling “down,” sad, indifferent, or hopeless (depressive episode)
  • both manic and depressive symptoms together (mixed episode)

While bipolar disorder is a lifelong illness, medication and talk therapy can help. You and your provider will decide what treatment plan works best for you. Learn about the three types of bipolar disorder.

Levothyroxine to Treat Hypothyroidism

Levothyroxine is a thyroid hormone medicine used to treat hypothyroidism, a condition that happens when the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormones control the way your body uses energy, so they affect nearly every organ in your body. Levothyroxine works by providing the thyroid hormone that is no longer produced by the gland. It controls hypothyroidism but does not cure it. Without this hormone, your body cannot function properly and will experience a variety of serious side effects.

Guidance for Second COVID-19 Vaccine Boosters

The CDC expanded eligibility for an additional booster dose for individuals who may be at higher risk of severe outcomes from COVID-19. People who are immunocompromised and people who are over the age of 50 can now get an additional booster 4 months after their prior dose. This will increase their protection further and is especially important for those 65 and older and those 50 and older with underlying medical conditions that increase their risk for severe disease from COVID-19. These groups of people are the most likely to benefit from receiving an additional booster dose at this time. Read the new guidance.
