According to documents, Henning has a lengthy criminal record, including several instances of stealing cars.

More recently, he was accused of assaulting his girlfriend in Ohio, before making his way to Rhode Island in a stolen car.

On Saturday night, police said he met an 80-year-old woman at a Wendy’s in Coventry.

Henning is accused of later robbing and assaulting the woman.

He then placed her in the back of her car before stealing it.

Police said he drove the woman to Smithfield, and then tightened a belt around her neck.

Once she was unconscious, he left her for dead in the woods.

The woman regained consciousness the next morning, stumbled out of the woods, and ran to neighbors for help.

She was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

Henning allegedly returned to Smithfield to bury her, not realizing she was gone.

He is facing several charges across multiple municipalities.
