Warwick man sentenced to serve 10 years at the ACI for sexual assault

Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that Sean Curran (age 20), of Warwick, was sentenced on July 30, 2019 to serve 10 years at the ACI after pleading nolo contendere earlier this year to two counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of video voyeurism, and two counts of production of child pornography. Curran was also ordered to register as a sex offender and undergo sex offender counseling.

Superior Court Justice Daniel A. Procaccini sentenced Curran to a 20-year full sentence, with 10 years to serve and the balance suspended with probation on the two counts of first-degree sexual assault. Curran also received a three-year suspended sentence with three years of probation on the two counts of video voyeurism. Additionally, he received a five-year suspended sentence with five years of probation on the two counts of production of child pornography. All sentences will be served concurrently.

Had the case proceeded to trial, the State was prepared to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that on diverse dates in 2016, Curran performed various sexual acts upon a 16-year-old while the minor victim was asleep and without the victim’s knowledge. Additionally, Curran recorded and stored the acts on his cell phone.

Curran pleaded nolo contendere on April 23, 2019 at a hearing in Kent County Superior Court.

Detectives Christopher Lo and Gilda Fortier of the Warwick Police Department conducted the investigation into the case and Special Assistant Attorney General Kaitlin Tracey prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of the Attorney General.
