Just after 12:30 a.m., members of the Glocester Police Department and EMS were called to the area of 1195 Putnam Pike for a serious motor vehicle accident.

The Jaws of life was used by members of the Chepachet and Harmony Fire/Rescue personnel to free the woman, a 43-year-old Glocester resident, from the vehicle.

She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and is being treated for serious injuries.

Glocester Police Chief Joseph DelPrete said the woman is in critical condition.

DelPrete added that at one point, officers did try and pull the woman over, but she drove off, then hit the building. She was suspected to be driving under the influence.

The immediate area of the accident was shut down for a period of time to investigate the crash.

Crews from the Glocester Police Accident Reconstruction Unit along with Chepachet and Harmony EMS/Fire Departments, provided assistance at the scene.

The town’s building inspector said the business could open up as early as Monday if all the repairs are completed.

The cause of this accident remains under investigation.
