Workers remove state seal including ‘and Providence Plantations’ from outside State House
by NBC 10 NEWS
A seal of the State of Rhode Island that was embedded in a walkway outside the State House was removed Wednesday.
It was an older version of the emblem that included the words “and Providence Plantations.”
It will eventually be replaced.
Voters in 2020 approved shortening the state’s official name because of the connotations that come with that last word.
There’s been an ongoing effort to remove older versions of the seal from the State House.
They have been covered up in some places and replaced in others.
Where the word has been engraved in the State House marble, it will stay, uncovered.
