6 arrested in Providence-area drug trafficking bust

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Six people were arrested for narcotics and firearms offenses on Thursday, May 2, following an investigation by Rhode Island State Police’s High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) task force.

Task force members executed search warrants at nine locations in Providence and surrounding towns, where they seized 3.7 kilograms of fentanyl, 2.5 kilograms of cocaine, 375 grams of methamphetamine, materials related to drug distribution, two semi-automatic pistols, two semi-automatic assault rifles and several thousand dollars in cash.

Police said they charged 31-year-old Kejuan Mitchell, 36-year-old Joel Kennedy and 33-year-old Andres Campbell of Providence; 33-year-old Hamlet Lopez of Johnston; and 30-year-old Edison Kelly Lopez and 47-year-old Catalino Lopez of North Providence as co-defendants in a criminal conspiracy.

All six men are being held without bail.
